GLAMOURAMA – Glamour Missing!

Glamourama by Nirvana Events kicked off on Saturday, April 25 at Royal Palm: ye old hangout for Nirvana (or so it’s beginning to seem now). Interestingly, Nirvana had organized the Valentine bash at the same venue (same hall too) back on February 14 (remember High on Love?). Does Sakhi get a really good deal every time with that particular hall or is it a regular member’s discount that he is availing? Whatever it is, we kept our fingers crossed for a night that promised excessive use of glamour and a little drama (that was the tag line for the event you see).

Here are our piece by piece two cents on the night as it unfolded:

As we made our way up to the 4th floor where the party was suppose to be, we hoped (to begin with) for a décor that would take our breath away upon stepping in. The main entrance door was being manned by two ummm… boys who tried their best to pose as men. Okay… that’s a start. Stepping inside, we saw that the dance floor was where it was for High on Love. The same went for the bar (out in the right most corner). The seating arrangement (for the people who had paid for lounges) was similar. Ah the stage. Instead of being set up against the western end of the hall, it was right up front across the main door! So SOMETHING was different after all! We were seriously beginning to think we were having a déjà vu of High on Love minus all the red haze from that night (red = Valentine’s Day + the color of love or something like that). It wasn’t bad so to speak of. It just could have been a lot better, that’s all.

OUR TWO CENTS:

Nirvana needs to work on providing a more qualitative ambiance. It is too damn important to give the “wow factor” to those who are entering the place. First impressions count a lot. While they had done a wonderful job of doing so at HIGH on LOVE, Glamourama lacked that shine .

Don’t get us wrong. The place wasn’t barren so to speak of but if you step in to a party at around 12:30 or 1:00 am and you know it’s a party that will end at 3:00 am sharp (Royal Palm’s house rules), then you expect the place to be ALIVE already! Unfortunately, it was not the case. The dance floor was barren; which was quite a disappointment honestly. Anyways, we made our way around, mingling in with familiar faces and all. People were in a good mood generally, standing around having a drink or two and chilling while the DJs played wordless music tracks.

A private event is dictated by its crowd and a corporate event by its host. Going by the saying that someone recently quoted to us, we’d say the crowd so far was pretty average. The only known face that we did see around was Saim who was there doing the PR for Nirvana’s party that night. Other than him, no one of the who’s who bunch was seen around to at least 2:15 in the morning. We’ve also heard that Yousaf Salli, Film actress Meera, Sana, and Laila, Models Fia, Xille Huma and Meekal did drop by  (for the remaining 30-40 minutes before the Royal Palm management turned the lights on).

The crowd did swell up after 1:30 am or so but what it gained in quantity nose-dived in terms of quality. Don’t blame us for feeling a tad bit awkward when a girl jumped on top of the turn-tables on the stage with a mic and announced that people should not use cell phones to take pictures of other people. We saw insecurities creeping in on the faces of a lot of people right there and then! Dark and shady corners were in excess and the young and the restless, completely intoxicated and high, were utilizing these opportunities in sets of two (and up to six at one instance). Everyone loves to dance. Everyone loves to have a good time but then again, the way your event needs to be talked about the night after and beyond depends on the quality of it. Not undermining the fact that there were people in that night who knew how to control their liquor and keep their morals in check but largely, people whom we spoke to that night were not very upbeat about the party and the mood it was setting.

Having said that, people were charged up and the dance floor was like a mini-mosh pit. They were dancing, they were moving to the beats both on and off the dance floors and apart from a few hooligans and wanna-be in the audience, the place was pretty alive from around 2 till 3 in the morning.

OUR TWO CENTS:

Nirvana should up the standards a bit more. Male to female ratio is important but that should not come at the cost of quality. Filter the trouble makes and image busters. Target the right people and the right audience. Make sure that they are there.

You know how it usually happens that a certain song starts playing at a party that you just can’t get out of your head? And how you can’t help but let the gravity pull you on the dance floor to jump around like no one is watching? Well that didn’t happen too often that night!

Let’s hand it to the DJs. They did a fantastic job at being exceptionally random if nothing else with their choice of tracks and it was a plot that fell flat on its face! Add to that their weird (and irritatingly continuous) attempts at muting the volume in the middle of the tracks being played to get the crowds to sing along! IT DIDN’T WORK! Good DJs needs to know their crowd. They need to have their fingers on the crowd’s pulse and operate with the flow. This was certainly not the case here. Unless the DJ thought he was Tiesto and could pull it off no matter what or he didn’t give a damn about how to drive the crowd, we were rendered clueless and confused as a Punjabi track overlapped an Rnb one to a Hindi to a trance to… need we say more?

Some of you might be daggers-drawn and out to defend the music and tell us that the dance floor was flowing over with people dancing through the night. Please! You’ll be insulting our intelligence. We can bet you free lunch at Cosa Nostra (and that too at Fine Dining) that if you start beating a dhol on liberty roundabout (chowk), you will most certainly get a dancing troupe around you soon enough! People will dance when they are at a party and music is on. Heck, they’ve paid for it, haven’t they? But there is a fine line between GOOD music and AVERAGE music! Unfortunately, this was average music so to speak! The music kept the crowds busy on the dance floor but it lacked a harmony and a flow.

OUR TWO CENTS:

Change the DJs. Period! Bring in Shahrukh for the next one! !

We’ve said this before and we have to say it again! Nirvana desperately needs to lay off born misers to tend the bar. Let’s leave aside the fact that getting a drink was a pushy affair to begin with. If you did not want to have your drink straight, chances were that you would barely taste the liquor as it swam in the pool of Coca Cola, juice, or Red Bull that you mixed it with. And what was the deal with the Red Bull being so scarce! “It’s only Red Bull for God’s sake,” we heard one girl arguing with the bartender as she pointed at a box partially draped by a cloth behind the counter. “I can see the cans under the cloth! Who are you saving THEM for if not us?” Many people we talked to at the venue were complaining that you either had to know the person at the bar or someone in the management to get a can of Red Bull from under the counter (it was quoted as ‘ran out’ for everyone else). Look, we’ve been to enough parties to know that a good bar and one with ample and continuous flow of liquor keeps the party going! It’s the simplest formula in the book! If people are complaining about scarcity of the liquor in their drinks or the (so called) bartenders making pathetic excuses (and cocktails), you know you have a serious problem! People should not be standing grumpy and all pouty out on the terrace groaning about how they are not getting their money’s worth. Give them quality.

Our final verdict on Glamourama is a mixed one. Some people liked it and some didn’t. It’s true that you cannot please everyone all the time but you really should not be fretting about it if you know you have the right crowds.

Don’t get us wrong. We do love parties and we have the utmost respect for our event managers. For one, you all take the time to read Partylicious and follow it religiously (which keeps us from having to read it again and again ourselves). Having said that, it is also our job to not only give credit but also impart advice where it is due. The essence of these reviews is to promote an even better understanding of how a certain event was received. The opinions and observations we share are not only ours alone but a collective consensus of people present that night.

Nirvana’s Glamourama lacked the glamour. It did have a hint of style but certainly left a lot of room for improvement.

For starters, we are hoping they would consider a different venue for their next party this summer. Try Chez Nur or DISH for instance guys. Ambiance and décor needs to be worked on and so does the guest list. Nirvana has never had problems generating the crowds. They only need to channel that ability to pull the right crowd that will not dampen their efforts.

Remember guys, it’s not how low you fall but the heights you bounce to from the lows. That is what people remember you for. Good luck for the next one!

The DJz weren’t too bad but they were experimenting too much with the music. I liked a few trax and some were alien to me. What was that DJ’s name again?

I think this was a balanced review. This was not one of Nirvana’s bestets parties yes but I’m sure they will come back strongly with their next one.

hi I just read the review about sakhis party now. i want to say that good work with a critic view of the party. if you look at it it is not bad for organisers but will help them in future. keep sharing like this. thanks.

kumon guyz give them a little break. they worked hard for this party and you are being very negative about them. Please be truthful and honest. I am not saying you have to say all nice things all the time about every dance party but be gentle a little bit.

Fauzan I like the way you have pointed out what was good and bad about the party and then proposed a solution as well (like change the venue or be more selective about the crowd), and every body in the event management bizness should have such inputs to help them and guide them.

Sonia the dj was DJ Pastiche and Mohammad Agha.Ya they took some time to warm up but they were good in the end.

The bar staff at RP is usually from Royal Palm so the hosts don’t really have direct control over them and how they are serving drinks to the people present. But they can be categorically told to make sure they make the drinks the right way. Nirvana should try a different venue and that will help shape up a lot of grey areas

This is for ’sugar & spice’… I dun think anyone is being -ve here about the hardwork that nirvana has put in for the party. We need honest critique like this about our events to understand how can we improve in future so its basically for nirvana’s own good that they know these things are happening at their party.

I was planning to go to this party but dropped my plans at the last instance because I know how royal palm parties are usually like. They use to be good some time back but that place has become rusty now.

Good show by Nirvana. The party was not exceptional but it was good. Nice review too. I think it will be helpful to Nirvana for their future planning.

Well, guys I guess the party rocked and since there were people who were consuming 10 redbulls in less than a hour so it has to run outta stock. come on, give that young , new organizer some encouragement. peace

Hey Anam I think the same as you. Sakhi did a great job organizing the party and no one is taking that away from him. Still things were happening around that were ruining the night and someone has to tell them so that it doesn’t happen again right? Why are we so against honest criticism always? As long as we hear all good things being talked about us we are happy but when some one points out a black sheep moment in us then we are suddennly so defensive. We should learn to be man enough to stand up and accept the mistakes and learn from them and that is why these things were pointed out in the interview. This will help the young otganizer perform better in his next party.

if such immorality and height of indecency continues then I am for the Taliban taking over Pakistan. Its not they who are extremists, it is all the people involved in such activities who are extremists and are voluntarily going out of the fold of Islam. It will be too late by the time you go in your graves all alone as there wont be anyone to accompany and party with you in the grave which will be pitch black from the inside once you are properly buried and all the people leave after your anaza prayers. Try to gain the morals of Islam and become a pious human being, Allah (SWT) has promised you “Hoors” in heaven in return for your piety. Its upto you either continue with sluts and your door to hell are waiting. Remember and please take note that it is mentioned in one of the ahadees that “immodest & immoral females” would lead the largest flock of men to hell!!!!

Ali if you don’t like such a lifestyle then just don’t read or come to this site. Everyone is entitled to live the way they want to and as long as you are not enforcing your way of life on any one else it should not be any problem. You are right we all have to go in our graves but we have to go in our own graves. Worry about yours and not others.

Well, you’re absolutely right. But, with discouragement there should be encouragement too. so that the young dude does not lose faith. all amateurs make mistakes initially, I hope sakhee learns from his too. I do agree with several djs and i personally did not like most of the songs. some stupid desi no’s were played but its okay, practice makes u perfect.and o ‘course, there re loopholes everywhere u go, you cant just ignore it, but however let go of it n not ponder over it too much.. and there is a lil advice for u guys who r runnin partilicious , not to make the reviews SO SO SO LONG, they become monotonous . keep it short and cool. ciao

Everyone,

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We really appreciate the support we get from our readers, peers and critics alike.

A few things I’d like to clarify here. The review is by no means an effort to undermine Nirvana Events. It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to bring an event together and we always acknowledge that. Not everyone can do this job and deliver an event timely and effectively. If nothing else, these reviews are meant to be a bird’s eye view of the events that happen so as to enable the event managers to know what they should do moving forward.

For Ali, the guys who has been giving religious sermons, I thank you for dropping by Partylicious. Your views about religion and ‘morals’ are your own and we respect that. This is not the right place for the sort of person you are. So I’ll merely add to what Wardah has said to you already. Stop reading. It’s as simple and as complicated at that :)

Anam and Urvashi, thanks for the advice. We too feel that the reviews are a little too long and we’ll be cutting them short to be more ‘to the point’ moving forward.

Thanks loads again for visiting Partylicious and being avid followers of our work.

Stay young and stay safe! ;)
